I usually get a bite or two when I'm on the allotment, and I probably got bitten on Wednesday, although the only one I remember is an irritated red ant whose nest I disturbed when weeding. So on Thursday my wrist was a little swollen, and I put some Benadryl on it. By the evening it was a little more swollen but it was a hot day and I'd been to a cinema with no air conditioning so I wasn't too concerned.
Friday morning and the swelling was half-way to my forearm, and when I went into work my friend said she'd had something similar which turned out to be blood poisoning. Managed to get an appointment at my doctor's at 4:30, by which time arm swollen 3/4 to elbow and blotchy red. Duty nurse had a quick examination and I have a week's antibiotics to take - luckily I'm not the one in the family allergic to penicillin.
It has gone down slightly today and it doesn't hurt but it's very stiff so I didn't take my knot garden to the art day to finish off. I did, at least, manage to get to my hairdressers to get my colour touched up, so not a complete waste of a day, but a very unproductive one.
