Anyone who follows my journal knows that I've been supporting Kiva for several years. For those who just dropped in, Kiva is an online organisation which lets you lend money to entrepreneurs in the developing world. The loans requested are usually a few hundred dollars, and they're made up of 25 dollar portions given by multiple lenders around the world.
When it first started you had to wait until the loan was repaid before your money was refunded, but this year they changed the system so you get the money refunded as it's repaid. Since I have a lot of loans, this means I had a sudden influx of funds which I haven't been organised enough to share out again. So I thought I'd get other people to do the work by offering the gift certificates!
Just leave me a comment with your email address, or drop me a note at janeb (at) knally.demon.co.uk and I'll send you a certificate. Once you get the certificate it will direct you to the Kiva site, where you will have to register if you aren't already a member.
Look through the list of entrepreneurs under the LEND tab (you can sort by region, gender and type of business) and choose who you want to lend to.
When you make a loan and checkout, it will ask you if you want to make a donation as well, but you can click on the No Thanks button at that point, so the transaction will be completely free. Although there's nothing to stop you making more loans if you get the lending bug :-)
ETA: Now down to 5 available.
